Day 24 to 27 – from 20/10 to 23/10

Gili Air

I leaved Lombok for Gili Air at 7:30 am.

Just arrived in Gili Air I let my stuff in the hostel and go for a walk. For once I wanted to enjoy the calm and a little loneliness. The island is small and it’s very easy to walk from on side to another. It is very nice to walk there and quiet.

This atmosphere perfectly matches my mood of the day!

In the island, there is no motorized transport. You can walk, horseback, ride or ride a bicycle.

On this first day I found deserted beaches and ended up in a beach bar with no one around me. Perfect! A coke, a book and the sea view just for me.

For dinner, I spotted a cheap warung right next to the hostel, I meet other residents there and finally spend the evening with them.

The next day, a short walk to the beach to snorkel before leaving. I did not see turtles. As the current was strong I decided to go back.

Then I went to a small bar close to the harbor in order to move forward on my blog. I can’t complain! It’s a good place to work and think.

I took the ferry to join my friend Jihad in Gili Trawangan. It feels good to join a close friend in my trip.

Just before leaving I learned that Jihad is stuck on Bali because the sea is not good. My ferry went there but I ended-up with few scares and nausea on arrival.

Gili Trawangan

On Gili T, I meet again Mathilde and Marion, friends from Lombok, and especially Jihad who was supposed to arrive the next day.

Jihad has booked a very nice hotel that changes from hostels.

The atmosphere is more festive than its neighbor Gili Air. However, it is still pleasant to walk there. Still no motorized transport. The island being a little bigger, we rented bicycles to move.

Sunset beaches

On the west side of the island, you can admire beautiful sunsets perched on swings or laid on the beach.

Harbor side

Next to the harbor there are many bars and restaurants, it is the party side, but you can also enjoy much quieter bars and restaurants.

There is also a night market. I love these moods where everything mixes, or you can order a little bit of everything.

Around the island

The bike allows us to move quickly in the island.

We went to a snorkeling area where I saw a turtle. It will also benefit to cross the island and find very nice corners. I even take the time to sing a song with Indonesians (they do not think I badly sing and that changes :p)

Behind the scenes

When we ride inside the island, we see an incalculable number of waste. There is even in the center of the island a sort of giant dump.

Advices:

- Take bicycles and do not hesitate to go for a ride

- If you take a boat, take a round trip directly because in the islands it will be more expensive

- To go out, the rendez-vous for the night is at Sama-Sama, Reggae bar with live bands
